15 Best Fridges Bloggers You Should Follow

How to Keep Your Fridge Running Smoothly

Best Fridges are available in many different sizes and shapes. They can fit in tight places like dorms.

Some models also sync with smart devices. They allow you to monitor your fridge remotely and help you fix any issues that might arise. You can also control them via voice commands.

Noise

Refrigerators can emit a variety of sounds while operating, some of which are more prominent than others. Before calling a refrigerator repair company, try to identify the source of any sounds you hear.

Rattling

The fridge can rattle if there is not enough space between it and the wall or cabinet or if its sitting at an unlevel angle. It’s easy to repair. It’s all you need to do is make sure there are at least a couple of inches between the fridge and the wall or cabinet, or adjust the leveling screws or legs to increase or decrease the height of your fridge.

Hissing

The compressor may hiss when cooling your food. This is normal, and it is caused by the compressor oil or refrigerant flowing through the system. If you’re concerned, time how often the compressor cycles and call an emergency repair service for your fridge if it does so more frequently than usual.

Squeaking

Refrigerators can be noisy if their coils or fans are dirty. If you notice a fridge making squeaking sounds clean the coils or fan with a vacuum cleaner using a brush attachment or a rag and water or simply use dish soap and water. This should be done at least twice every year or more often if your refrigerator is older or used a lot.

Clicking

A click sound can also be heard from a refrigerator. This is usually caused by freezing around the fan of the freezer. This issue can be fixed with a manual defrost, but it is likely to recur unless the issue is addressed by a service expert.

If you hear clicking, turn the fridge back on. This sound could also be caused by an ice maker if there is one attached to your fridge, so be sure to ensure this is switched off when you don’t need continuous ice.

The hum of your refrigerator is normal. It may get more pronounced during certain times of the day, or following heavy stockings or intensive freezer functions. This is due to the fact that the refrigerator has to perform more efficiently and faster to keep your food cold however it isn’t necessarily a sign of trouble with the refrigerator or its performance.

Dust

Household dust attracts dirt bacteria and other microorganisms, as well as traces of everyday household chemical exposures. The tiny particles can trigger allergic reactions and inhalation and are an ideal surface for microbes, such as those that can cause infection if they come into contact with a cut.

It’s impossible to clean a fridge entirely however, regular cleaning can reduce the accumulation of dust and keep the temperature consistent. A dirty fridge is a waste of energy because it overheats and is inefficient. If your refrigerator is making more noise than usual or If you suspect that it is working too hard it could be time to get it checked out.

Contrary to other airborne particles dust doesn’t simply drift in from outside as is often believed. It is made up of resuspended dirt from your home and can be contaminated by lead or other toxic substances. It also contains pollen, mold, and car exhaust. It also contains pollutants from the past, such as DDT which was banned more than 50 years ago.

Certain compounds, such as flame retardants such as decabromodiphenylether can be dissolved and released into the air, but the majority of chemicals in dust in the house are transferred directly from one object to another, such as by people throwing fibers and tiny bits of plastic off of electronic equipment. High-molecular-weight substances, such as surfactants used in cleaners and paint strippers, also migrate directly into dust.

Aside from contaminating the food in the refrigerator, a dusty fridge can also be detrimental to your health. It can harbor allergens like pet dander or droppings of cockroaches that can trigger asthma attacks and allergies. It can also contain bacteria spores like staphylococcus aureus, that can cause infection if they make their way into an open wound.

Researchers have discovered that a wide range of health conditions can be traced to dust contamination, from cardiovascular disease to cancer to leukemia and inflammatory intestinal disease. A recent study found that the homes of children with leukemia were more likely to have higher levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, the PBDEs, and PCBs in their dust than the homes of healthy children.

Condenser Coils

When refrigerators are running properly, the coils on the back and front of the appliance should be able to dissipate the heat generated by the compressor. If these radiator-like parts are covered with dust, pet hair or lint the compressor has to work overtime trying cool the refrigerator and wears down the appliance. That’s why it’s so important to clean the coils regularly.

If you’re planning to do the work yourself it is recommended you unplug the refrigerator from its outlet and switch off the power source prior to beginning. This will reduce the chance of electrocuting yourself or your family members while working on the appliance. If you are allergic to dust it’s a good idea for you to wear a face mask. Then, you’ll have to locate the coils. These are typically on the back of the fridge or at the front across the base in certain models. If you are unsure where to look check the owner’s manual or contact the manufacturer for more details.

Once you’ve located the coils, remove the access panel (if there’s one) and alternate between vacuuming them using the hose’s narrow attachment or brushing them with a condenser cleaner brush. It’s important to take your time when doing this so that you don’t bend or damaging the coils. Replace the kick panel, or move the refrigerator to its the correct position, and then plug it in.

You can employ a professional if you’re not comfortable doing it yourself. It’s cheaper and easier to maintain the routine of cleaning to prevent the issue from occurring.

Maintenance

Refrigerators are durable appliances that keep running all day and night to cool your food. To make sure they are doing their job effectively they require regular maintenance. Simple preventive maintenance can keep your machines running efficiently for a long time.

One easy thing to do is to wipe down the door seals. Jelly and other foods that are sticky can cause a buildup and stop the gaskets from sealing tightly, allowing cool air to leak through tiny gaps. Every few months, clean them clean with baking soda solution and warm water using the toothbrush or sponge.

Another spot to check for problems is the fan at the back of the fridge. It can be noisy if it’s been clogged up with insulation, paper or even mice. Unplug the refrigerator, take out all the shelves and remove any parts that are removable. Clean the coils as well as the area surrounding them using a vacuum cleaner with an attachment for a hose. Make sure to turn off the fridge off when you’re finished.

It is recommended to check the owner’s manual for information on where to find the coils, the fan and what tools to clean it with. It is also recommended to read the warranty to make sure you are aware of the coverage.
